Can The Cleveland Indians Produce In 2010

March 5th, 2010 by Heather Maxwell

It is no secret that the 2009 season was a disaster for the Cleveland Indians, but this is a new season and an entirely different attitude. Management knew that changes had to be made and boy did they make them. There are going to be some new faces and a lot more enthusiasm from this team.

When your veterans are not doing their job, it is time for young talent to be given a chance to prove themselves. The good news for Indians fans is that the team is now stocked up with talent and the odds are very good that we are going to seem more than one future superstar come out of this. Nothing is more dangerous than a young team that gets on a roll.

A casual glance at the roster would have people thinking that this team is more like the movie \”Major League\” than they would care to believe. However, if you really look at some of these players, there are some up and coming stars in this lineup that are going to be a pure joy to watch. A lot of these kids can flat out play the game.

If we had to pick one player that really looks great it would have to be Shin-Soo Choo. He was nothing special when he first came over from Korea in 2005, but he came into his own the moment he put on a Cleveland Indians Uniform. He played mostly part time his first few seasons, but you could tell that something was brewing.

The moment he got a chance to play regularly, he started to take off. In only 94 games, he popped 14 dingers and hit over .300. Last season he was given the chance to play every day and once again showed dramatic improvement. His home run output went up to 20 and he became a well-rounded player. Expect to see another breakout season this year.

The one area of concern is the starting pitching, but even that is starting to come together. Nobody\’s job is safe right now and while there will be one or two players that will pitch scared and get rocked, we will see a few that will step up and take on the challenge. This could result in some breakout seasons for the pitching staff.

April only shows a few games at home, so you may want to get your tickets early. Fans in Cleveland are going to want to see what this team has to offer and good seats will be hard to come by. These young players are going to eat up all the attention and this is a rare opportunity to get to know the team before their head doesn\’t fit into their hat anymore.
