The Right Golf Clubs for Your Game Are Only A Mouse Click Away

The way we play golf has changed and a lot of that change has to do with the equipment we carry. The irons we carry have changed, as most iron manufacturers now offer sets that start at the 4 or even 5-irons in answer to the most iron sets now begin at the 4 or even 5 irons in recognition of the growing popularity of hybrid clubs among the majority of players. It stands to reason, as for most club golfers hybrid clubs are far easier to play than the corresponding iron.

The volume of driver heads is regulated by the current USGA and R…A limits. That limit is 460cc and for most club golfers, bigger really is better. If you struggle with consistency from the tee, playing a bigger driver will definitely help. High MOI and more stable weight distribution makes larger drivers far more forgiving, even on bad swings. Miss-hit a 460 cc driver and you won’t suffer as much in distance and accuracy.

In common with all clubs, the heart of your driver lies with the shaft. Play a driver with a shaft that doesn’t fit your swing and you’ll be hard pressed to find any accuracy or distance. Modern shaft designs can moderate or even eliminate many of the most regular misses in golf. Troubled by a slice, flexing down in your shafts might be the answer. If your launch angles are too low, then using a driver shaft with a more flexible tip for example, could add some height to your drives. Match your swing speed to the proper shaft and your chances of success will multiply. If you don’t know how fast you swing the club, the majority of shaft ratings will include a carry approximation for calculating the best flex fit. Check the ratings for various shafts and opt for one with a carry rating that matches your normal yardage.

Hybrid clubs are the fastest rising segment in golf club sales. If you lack consistency with your long irons, some easy-to-hit hybrids could well be your best decision. Designed to be easy to hit from practically any kind of lie, hybrids are easy to play from the tee and the fairway. You can even chip with them. These are high hitting clubs, so most shaft companies are marketing specialty shafts built with this in mind.

Iron designs now come in an even wider range of options. Modern iron designs are there to help with most of the common flight problems. Slices can be eliminated with offset irons, wider sole designs to minimize the fat shot and help get the ball in the air that much easier. Take a long look at your irons. If their design doesn’t give you the help you need, then it’s most likely time for an upgrade.

The short game is where you bring in your scores and that offers plenty of options as well. Forgiving wedge designs mean you don’t have to make any compromises with your wedge play anymore. If the little flop wedge shot is causing problems, then a high lofted wedge could be the answer. If your bunker play is inconsistent, choose an easy to hit hollow sand wedge. These hollow wedges are almost impossible to miss-hit and make easy work of just about any bunker.

Changes in equipment rules have given us some pretty strange looking putter designs. Strange looking, but forgiving. If your putting is unreliable, a more forgiving putter shape may well be the best choice. Closing the putter too much towards the hole? You probably miss a lot of putts to the left (for a right handed golfer) and a face balanced putter might well be the cure.
